Gelsobello is located in one of the most beautiful valleys of the
Chianti area, the Val d’Elsa, and dates back to 1798. It lies amidst
the flourishing green of the Valacchi agricultural estate where, for
many years, the Sanesi family has produced the typical products
that this remarkable land yields: Chianti wine, extra virgin olive oil,
grappa and Vin Santo dessert wine. The landscape is particularly
striking where vineyards alternate with olive tree groves and the
towers of San Gimignano stand tall in the background. Gelsobello
enjoys the privileged position of sitting opposite the 10th century
Romanesque church of Sant’Appiano. The location is very centrally
located between the two great art cities, Florence at 26 km and Siena
at 30 km.
The Gelsobello estate is a small hamlet of buildings and is made up of
the owner’s house, where the caretakers live, and a handful of small
buildings. These comprise 7 guest apartments as well as a
pleasant common room where guests can read and relax and dinners, wine
tasting and
other special events can be arranged. The staff is helpful,
friendly and accommodating.
Gelsobello now has a new kitchen facility for cooking lessons.
Guests arrive along the cypress lined avenue which already gives a
preview of the great care that has been taken in the attentive and high
class restoration of this structure. Complete consideration has
been given to detail and the furniture and fabrics are tasteful and of
high quality.
Materials typical of the region were used during the refurbishment such
as the clay bricks for the ceilings, the silver-grey Pietra-Serena
stone for the fireplaces, the wood used for doors and windows as well
as the heavy roof beams.
The apartments are a striking mix of old character and modern design
and conveniences. Each has air conditioning, central heating,
satellite television, WiFi Internet connection, microwave and
conventional oven, hairdryers, safe and dishwasher (for most
apartments).
Gelso means mulberry tree and the old white mulberry tree (gelso
bianco) can be seen on the well maintained grounds. The extensive
outdoor layout includes a large shared swimming pool (7x15) with
sundeck and loungers and there are several furnished outdoor areas for
relaxing and enjoying the beautiful countryside setting. There is
parking on the grounds.
About Prezzemelo
The Prezzemolo apartment and Alloro apartment are housed in what was

The Prezzemolo apartment is located opposite the imposing mulberry tree
for which the estate is named.
