The Area

Lake Orta is considered one of the most fascinating lakes in Italy.
Yet untouched by crowds of tourists, it is the perfect escape from the daily hustle and bustle of modern life, in touch with nature and history, enjoying sports and great gastronomy.

Along all the villages facing the lake, you can still feel the atmosphere of a past full of history, as demonstrated by several baroque buildings.
The Sacro Monte of Orta, included on the UNESCO world heritage list, is a remarkable sacred site. Set up in a botanical garden on a hill overlooking the lake, it is dedicated to the life of Saint Francis, with 21 chapels, built between the 15th and the 17th century, richly decorated with frescoes and terracotta statues by famous artists. A real jewel.

The picturesque town of Orta San Giulio is a maze of fascinating little streets filled with restaurants, wine bars, art galleries, gourmet and local craft shops. You will enjoy magnificent sunsets from there, especially from the main square overlooking San Giulio island where you can go to by boat until late in the evening.

Vacciago, where Bella Orta is located, lies just above the picturesque town of Orta San Giulio and overlooks the lake and San Giulio island.
It is an untouched baroque village full of fascinating 16th and 17th century buildings, a holiday destination for noble families from Milan and Piedmont ever since

All services and amenities are very close. In the Palazzo’s close proximity are golf courses, horseback-riding facilities, cycle paths and water sports. The area is renowned for its choice of restaurants, from rustic trattorias to high end culinary establishments to delight even the most refined of palates.  You’ll find yourself in a region with one the richest culinary traditions in Italy, home of truffle and prestigious wines.

A 45 min. drive will take you to the fashion and cultural hub city of Milan for a never-ending offering of cultural events and why not …days of unforgettable shopping!

Art lovers will find the Calderara Foundation an impressive place where several modern art pieces have been collected by the Calderara family over the years. The village attracted many artists over the years, including the painter Antonio Calderara.  His house and modern art collection are today open to visitors in the Fondazione Calderara, located in the centre of the village.  Calderara Foundation was established in 1979 and it consists of 327 contemporary paintings and sculptures, 56 of which are by Calderara himself. The remaining 271 works are by 133 different artists from all over the world among them Sonia Delaunay, Lucio Fontana, Osvaldo Licini, Pietro Manzoni, Josef Albers and Arnaldo Pomodoro.
