Podere Miravalle is a small olive farm situated at the top of a knoll with
panoramic
views of the surrounding countryside. From the loggia, west
garden and
pool, there is a stunning vista of the valley and Gargonza Castle on
the
opposite hill. One approaches the property along dry stone walls,
lined
with cypress, oak and olive trees on the unpaved country lane.
This
seven acre property includes woods, fruit orchard, olive groves and a
terraced
garden with spacious lawns. Although secluded, it is only a
twenty minute
walk, an eight minute bike ride or a few minutes drive to the
characteristically Tuscan hill town of Monte San Savino, 1.5km away.
Recently restored, Podere Miravalle retains its original 400 year old
charm. The house could be described as
"peasant chic" in style, with subtle earthen colors used on walls and
terra cotta floors throughout. Attractive cotton and linen
fabrics from
the Busatti weaving mills of Anghiari complement the painted antique
furnishings and interesting wrought-iron pieces. The kitchen and
bathrooms, although maintaining the "rustic" feeling, include modern
touches such as stainless steel and Cararra marble counter tops.
The
house appeared in various interior design publications, such as Architectural Digest
and “Tuscany
Interiors” by Paolo Rinaldi.
Podere Miravalle has two floors and is 140 square meters in size. It works particularly well for two couples as there are two master bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms.
The ground level includes an
entrance hall, passage room with single bed, double bedroom with queen bed
(150cm x 190cm) and a shared bathroom; living room, dining room with
fireplace, modern
built-in galley kitchen (stove, refrigerator, oven, dishwasher, toaster, microwave, American and Italian coffee maker) and outdoor dining area under the
loggia/porch. Both the dining room and kitchen have French doors leading to the porch.
On the upper
level (with access either via an external stone staircase with small porch directly from the garden or via an internal staircase in the living room) there is a living room with a library/reading area and satellite TV and two master bedrooms. The first master has a queen bed and en suite bathroom with shower. The second master has a queen bed (or two single beds as required) and en suite bathroom with bathtub. A separate entrance from the upstairs living room exits onto a little portico with stone steps leading to the south garden.
A few meters from the main house in the garden area is the casina, a separate cottage with a queen bed (160cm x 195cm) and one single bed and bathroom with shower. The casina is air conditioned and has satellite TV.
Podere Miravalle has an impressive infinity pool (6.5m x 15m) with
cascading
water on two sides, set amidst the olive groves, corbezzolo, lavender,
viburnum
& rosemary. An atmosphere of peace prevails and the views are expansive and relaxing.
Guests will be delighted to discover the jewels of Renaissance art
&
architecture in little Monte San Savino, by the likes of
Andrea Contucci, known as “Sansavino” and Antonio San Gallo, not to mention the town’s
many churches and towers. Interesting art and ceramics exhibits
are held
throughout the year at the fortified "Cassero", an amazing museum
& archaeological site. The area around Monte San Savino is
synonymous with
gastronomy; thus, many quaint, family-run trattorias and excellent
restaurants
can be found, catering to all tastes and pocketbooks.
Also of great interest is La Giostra del Saracino which takes place on the first Sunday in September in nearby Arezzo. This medieval jousting event displays facets of old world charm, famous history, tradition and tasteful cuisine.
