Sorrento. Oct 14, 1927. Left hotel at 10:00 and were rowed out to the steamer Regina Elena. First time I have ever boarded a boat away from land. It took about an hour to go to the Island of Capri. Here a score of small boats met us and took us to the grotto. It is a cavern under the rocky island. We had to lie down in the boat to pass under a small aperture. When we were inside we saw quite a large cavern -- the air, water, everyone in it being a beautiful shade of blue. From here we boarded the boat again and went to the town of Capri for lunch. We had to go up an incline railway to go from the dock to the hotel. After lunch, we took a boat again for Naples -- passing Sorrento and
a villa which used to belong to S. Marion Crawford, the
author.
