In my post vacation fog, I don't think I ever responded to you. We had an absolutely lovely stay at Castello Rufina. It was the perfect place for our group and we did indeed have the most spectacular weather. Much warmer that we would have expected at that time so it was perfect for lounging around the pool. I could not have hoped for a more lovely place to spend my birthday with all of my friends. I'll be sure to recommend it to friends and I know everyone else will as well. Diane P. 10/2011 Castello Rufina was BEAUTIFUL. The furniture was lovely. The rooms were generously sized. The 14 of us were very comfortable. My mother-in-law would like to bring the dining room table home for our family Thanksgivings. We enjoyed our trips to Fiesole and the Pontessieve outdoor market on Wednesday morning. Take a train from Pontessieve into Florence - they run regularly throughout the day. The first night just before midnight we heard a bird/animal screeching in our attic at the outside wall. I called Alessia and she and her husband were 10 kilometers away at their own home. They immediately came back to the villa. I explained what I heard and where exactly it came from. The bird/animal made one final squeak when they were there and her husband reassured me it was a bird. Sure enough, the next day, I saw a swallow fly out of a hole in the eaves in the exact spot where I heard the screeching. The holes were built into the eaves for air circulation - it was not damage or anything like that - and the birds were not in the attic, but rather in the eaves. We never heard a peep after that night. Poor bird, I think it's nest was raided that night by an animal intruder. Just a part of nature... Joanne W. 07/2009 |
