Conservatory Dog pen Good things about traveling to this part of Italy in May: *The air is still cool (I live in Texas so this was a big plus for me), but the lucky days when the sun comes through the clouds, it’s deliciously warm and the colors come alive all around you. *Lots of spring flowers are in bloom such as wisteria, irises, roses, azaleas, not to mention the wild flowers especially the red poppies flooding the countryside. For me, this is reason enough for the trip! *There are not so many tourists to run into, especially in this part of Italy. Some not-so-great things about traveling in May: *The weather is very changeable. I have been to this part of Italy twice at this time of year and both times there was a lot of rain and it was cool. *There is a law that commercial places are not allowed to turn on your fuel oil type heating after April 30th. It has something to do with the high cost of fuel oil. You get used to the chilly rooms, but it’s difficult to dry laundry and your towels don’t necessarily dry overnight.
